What to Expect

Your initial session normally takes a full hour, this allows for the time it takes to go through a detailed history and examination. The examination will generally look at things like your alignment, range and quality of movement, strength/stability, biomechanics, and any special tests particular to your complaint. It is recommended that you bring a pair of shorts and wear a vest top (if female) to your initial session (depending on the area of your problem). A thorough initial assessment is vital to establish a diagnosis, and to determine the impact your problem is having on your life.

Treatment is also commenced during the initial session, and followed-up during any subsequent sessions. Treatment may consist of a number of techniques, depending on your problem. Common treatment techniques I use are:

  • Soft tissue massage and myofascial release
  • Mobilisation or manipulation
  • Muscle energy
  • Therapeutic exercise
  • Acupuncture or dry needling
  • Advice and education on posture/movement disorders
  • Advice on pain management
  • Taping
  • Electrotherapy

You will be provided with a full explanation of your problem with advice on the course of action, and usually you will be expected to do some homework! You will also have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.
